In a previous career life, Sandra worked in the voluntary and community sector offering support to people who were experiencing homelessness and drug addiction/alcohol addiction.
In recovery herself from alcoholism Sandra since 1995 Sandra speaks publicly about being recovery so that people can know long term recovery is possible, enjoyable and doable for everyone. Sandra say’s coming into recovery is THE single best decision she has made in her life was to put the drink down and pick up the tools of recovery.
As a result of being in recovery coupled with a desire to help people where ever she could Sandra went from working on the front line of service provision to project management on specialised transitional housing service for people with mental health issues.
Voluntary work is still a part of Sandra’s life. She has engaged in voluntary services such as Young people’s probation support services and prison programmes such as AVP (Alternative To Violence) Sandra can still be found in front of large groups of volunteers delivering training on how they engage with service users they are volunteering with.
More recently Sandra has delivered training to students in Trinity College Dublin on presenting skills and public speaking. In the summer of 2019 Sandra achieved a Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) Award, the highest level possible with Toastmasters International.
